PUNCTUATION MARKS

Hello! I hope everyone is in the pink of health. For today's entry, I will be sharing to all of you about punctuation marks.


WHAT IS PUNCTUATION MARK?

It is a symbol that is used or given to readers to show how a sentence is constructed and how the sentences are supposed to be read.


IS PUNCTUATION MARK IMPORTANT?

Yes, of course! It is so that we can understand the messages that the sentences are trying to convey.


COMMON PUNCTUATION MARKS

  • FULL STOP ( . )

The full stop is used to show the end of a sentence.

e.g.  Mary is combing her hair.


  • QUESTION MARK ( ? )

The question mark is used to show the end of a question.

e.g.  Where are you going?


  • COMMA ( , )


The comma is used to seperate ideas in a sentence.

e.g.  Halimah bought some donuts, apples, and bananas for herself.


  • APOSTROPHE ( ' )

The apostrophe is used to show that a person or thing has ownership over certain things.

e.g.   This is Ruben's pen.

It is also used in contractions for modal verbs.

e.g.   Oliver didn't (did not) like green tea.


  • EXCLAMATION MARK ( ! )

The exclamation mark is used after words that express feelings or emotion.

e.g.   This is amazing!


  • QUOTATION MARK ( " " )


Quotation mark usually found in a dialogue or conversation.

e.g.   "He is here." She said.


  • HYPHEN ( - )

A hyphen is used in joining 2 or more words together.

e.g.   She is a three-year-old girl.
